AIRFIX Fairey Gannet AS.4 in 1/48th scale
I finally got this one off my bench, it seemed like the never ending project, always "one last thing" to do. It is a superbly well-engineered kit from Airfix, with excellent Tamiya-like fit, very fine and sharp surface & molded detail, excellent decals / stencils for three separate marking options, and very clear error-free instructions.
It is not for beginners, however, due to the ~300+ parts count, delicate sub-assemblies, tricky folded wing geometry, and 100+ stencils (decalling, which I generally dislike, took me three days).
I wanted to show a glimpse of the turboprop assembly, so I opened up an access panel and scratched the internals as best I could. I added some wiring to the wing folds based on reference photos. .I black-based the model and used some post-shading to highlight a few panels, as well as washing it with oils.
I'm pleased with it, although it started to fight me a bit towards the end and I struggled through the finish line. The base is black acrylic and a total dust magnet, can't help it. Aftermarket resin figure from plusmodel.cz, Eduard cockpit detail set and seat belts, 815 Naval Air Squadron emblem from eBay.
